I’d managed to break my cable for my CarTek change light and was looking at options. I’d initially rejected the option of AiM Motorsports readers because their software is for Windows and I’m a Mac user. But I decided to partition my laptop using OS Boot Camp. This passed without incident and I loaded the software easily using Windows 10.
I then elected to try their Solo2 DL via the OBD2 port to save effort. Duly ordered from Demon Tweaks it arrived in no time and my MacBook connected to the unit again without problem and we were off. A quick track created in local streets as a testbed yielded the startling fact that the change lights didn’t work and I was getting no non-gps data. Lots of internet study, a conversation with AiM,s AI yielded little of use. I reverted to the age old engineers trick of jiggling the OBD2 port about and gained intermittent ECU data.

So the modern tech is fine but the 14 year old tech is worn out. I’ll need to tighten the OBD2 pins or tap in a new OBD2 port to sort this out. Oh did I say I was doing a track day at Silverstone next week. No pressure then.
